For a long time in my career, I tied value to struggle. If something felt difficult, I assumed it was important. If it came naturally, I questioned whether it counted. I mistook discomfort for growth and ease for laziness. If you do that long enough, you lose track of the parts of yourself that actually make you good at what you do.
For those who’ve been following along, “Your 50” is an ongoing series I started writing at the end of last year as a way to reset how I think about my work, my direction, and what the next stretch of life might look like. Each week I give a small prompt that forces me to slow down, look closer, and check in with what actually feels right and what doesn’t. My hope is that it helps other business owners, team leaders, and people in career transition do the same in their own way.
Now on to Week 10.
If you’ve been following this process, the first two months have been about noticing what feels off, what feels heavy, and what feels like obligation. But around this point, you start to notice the opposite. There are moments that feel familiar in the best way. A conversation that feels easy. An idea that clicks without wrestling it. A choice that feels natural instead of negotiated. It’s subtle, but you can feel the difference.
This is the part where some of that comes back. It’s not reinvention. It’s remembering. You start to feel comfortable in your own skin again. You stop trying to impress some imaginary panel of judges and start trusting the instincts that have been with you from the beginning.
That’s the real work this week. Not reinventing yourself. Not plotting a dramatic pivot. Just noticing where you felt most like yourself lately and letting that feeling expand a bit.
It doesn’t need to be big. One small step in that direction is enough. One conversation. One decision. One moment where you choose what fits instead of what performs.
Momentum starts with recognition, not reinvention.
This Week’s Question: Where, in the past few days, did you feel most like yourself, and what would it look like to take one small step in that direction?
“Your 50” is a 50-week reflection series about realigning, activating, and expressing what comes next.
